“Oh Sicilia!” our newest wine flight for the deeper days of summer
Is it just us or is there something about Seattle summer that makes you crave a crisp, mineral-driven white wine, too. Add a sun-drenched patio, a table full of some of the best produce the region has to offer and you’re halfway to Sicily without the vacation days. This season at Stoneburner, we’re leaning into it with a new rotating wine flight: “Oh Sicilia!”—a bright, refreshing flight through three distinct expressions of Sicilian terroir.
Sicily has long been known for its volcanic soils, sun, and sea, and these wines are everything we want right now: salty, nimble, and alive. They’re versatile enough to play well with our seasonal menu, but charismatic enough to sip all on their own.
Here’s What You’ll Be Tasting:
1. Riofavara ‘Mizzica’ | Moscato di Noto | 2022
This isn’t your sweet Moscato, so let’s go. Grown on the southern tip of Sicily by the Padova family who have been stewards of the land for nearly a century, this bottling is subtle and agile, with notes of white peach, green tea, and yellow fruit. It's made with organic methods that go beyond certification, and it delivers balance and lightness that’s ideal alongside heirloom tomatoes, grilled fish, or just street side.
2. Fina ‘Miral’ | Grillo | 2023
Lemon peel, stone fruit, almond blossom, and light, fragrant green herbs—this wine is summer in a glass. Grown near Marsala on Sicily’s western coast, Fina's Grillo is juicy with a saline cut that matches beautifully with dishes like chilled shellfish, summer corn, or veggies. The Fina family’s passion for their land shows through in every bottle—and their commitment to hospitality reminds us of our own.
3. Tornatore | Carricante | 2023
Sourced from the northern slopes of Mount Etna, this wine has volcanic energy in the best way. Think white peach, wild mint, and green apple layered over a mineral, savory backbone. Carricante thrives at high elevation, and you can taste the altitude in its structure and freshness. It's a knockout with dishes that play with char or smoke, grilled zucchini, roasted peppers, and anything from the wood oven.
Why It Works at Stoneburner
At Stoneburner, we pair loosely and drink with intention. Our menu is built to share—small plates that shift with the seasons, layered with flavor but never heavy. These Sicilian whites are the perfect companions. Their briny edge and citrusy lift cut through rich cheeses and fried bites, while their balance makes them ideal for the quieter moments in a meal.
We're not chasing the perfect “pairing.” We’re chasing wines that live well on the table, that feel right in the moment, and that tell a story worth sipping slowly. This flight does exactly that.
