The Standard of Excellence: Vega Sicilia
In the heart of Ballard, where the salt air of the Ship Canal meets the warm glow of our hearth, we believe that the best things, whether a slow-simmered bolognese or a perfectly aged vintage require time and precision. It is in this spirit of craftsmanship that we welcome two extraordinary new additions to the Stoneburner wine list: Valbuena 5° and Pintia from the legendary Spanish estate, Vega Sicilia.
The Vanguard of Ribera del Duero
Founded in 1864, Vega Sicilia remains the definitive jewel of Spanish winemaking. While many modern wineries rush to market, Vega Sicilia operates on a different clock. Their flagship wines are frequently aged for a decade or more before release—a commitment to quality that draws frequent comparisons to the First Growths of Bordeaux.
By blending indigenous Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, they produce wines with a structural elegance that is both powerful and remarkably poised.
New on the List: Valbuena 5° and Pintia
We have carefully selected these two expressions to complement the rustic, Mediterranean-inspired flavors that define our menu. These bottles represent the pinnacle of Spanish craft, bridging the gap between historical tradition and contemporary depth.
Valbuena 5° (Ribera del Duero)
Named for its rigorous five-year maturation period, the Valbuena 5° is an exercise in precision.
The Profile: Primarily Tinto Fino with a touch of Merlot, it offers a sophisticated balance of power and cleanliness. Expect a remarkably creamy texture—the result of patient aging and the estate’s own artisanal cooperage.
The Pairing: At Stoneburner, we recommend pairing this with one of our steaks or a rich pasta dish. The wine’s refined tannins harmonize beautifully with the winter faire.
Pintia (Toro)
Hailing from the high-altitude, sun-drenched vineyards of the Toro region, Pintia represents the modern, powerhouse side of the Vega Sicilia family.
The Profile: This is a masterclass in balance, proving that high-alcohol wines can maintain absolute poise. You’ll find notes of dark red fruits and purple flowers grounded by a sophisticated spice and a toasty, earthen finish.
The Pairing: This bottle is a compelling companion to our hearth-fired veggies or a skirt steak or pork chop. The wine's spice and structure stand up perfectly to the intense heat and char of the Stoneburner hearth.
More Than a Meal: The Stoneburner Experience
Service at Stoneburner is designed to be as intentional as our sourcing. From our relationships with Pacific Northwest producers to our hand-picked cellar of world-class vintages, every detail is a chapter in a larger story.
Whether you are joining us for a celebratory dinner or a spontaneous glass of world-class red at the bar, our goal remains the same: to provide an experience that is familiar yet esoteric, rustic yet refined.
The Valbuena 5° and Pintia are now pouring. We invite you to pull up a chair and discover why Vega Sicilia has remained at the top of the world stage for over 150 years. Be sure to add a note to your reservation if you’d like us to prepare the bottle in advance of your arrival. It’s always our pleasure.
